Frequently Asked Questions

What are the reasons to install an egress window in my basement?
Installing an egress window in your basement offers several benefits:
1. Safety: Egress windows provide a necessary escape route in case of emergencies, such as fires or other hazardous situations. Building codes often require them in habitable basements.
2. Natural Light: They allow natural light to enter the basement, making the space feel brighter and more inviting.
3. Ventilation: Egress windows can improve air circulation in the basement, helping to reduce humidity and prevent mold growth.
4. Increased Property Value: A finished basement with an egress window can increase the overall value of your home by making the space more usable and compliant with safety regulations.
5. Living Space: If you plan to turn your basement into a bedroom or living area, an egress window is often a requirement to meet local building codes.
6. Aesthetic Appeal: A well-placed egress window can enhance the look of your basement from both inside and outside.
7. Energy Efficiency: By allowing natural light and ventilation, egress windows can help reduce the need for artificial lighting and improve the overall energy efficiency of your home.

Does it cost more to install an egress window where there is no existing window?
No, the costs are the same.

Can I use European Tilt & Turn windows for my egress?
Yes, absolutely, our T & T windows are code compliant. Our company was the first Egress Company to use this product for the Egress application. DEW has set the trend nationwide where every Egress company offers the option for the European Tilt Turn Window.

What are the advantages of Tilt & Turn windows?

  • An easier operation for faster escape, especially for children.
  • As opposed to a casement, the in-swing Tilt & Turn window allows the window well to have a grate if the window if it is partially above ground.
  • Our tilt and turn windows are German engineered and are manufactured in Europe. Due to high energy costs in Europe the efficiency standards are much higher than American made products. Our products will typically start with a .28 U value and allow for much higher options. Inquire with your estimator.
  • Dual Action: It can tilt for secure ventilation or turn to escape or to clean easily.
  • With a 5 point lock system our Tilt & Turn windows are more secure than any other window style available.

Do you offer other style windows?
Yes. We offer all styles of windows including casements, sliders and hung windows, from a wide variety of different manufactures.

Does the Tilt & Turn window cost more?
No. For basement egress windows, we install casements, sliders and Tilt & Turn windows for the same price.

What about window treatments?
Our Tilt & Turn window has the option of a maintenance free integral blind system. Blind systems from nearly all treatment companies can be attached to the window sash.

What colors do they come in?
We stock most sizes in white but can special order nearly any color. Inquire with your estimator.

Does the Tilt & Turn come with a screen?
Yes. Screens are  included on all our products.

Do you offer Sump Pumps?
Yes, we recommend sump pumps in every egress package due to the large storms Colorado receives in the spring and summer. Please inquire with your estimator.

An egress window in the basement can significantly increase the value of your home for several reasons:
1. Increased Living Space: Egress windows allow for more natural light and ventilation in the basement, making it a more inviting and usable space. This can transform a dark, unused area into a functional living space, such as a bedroom, office, or family room.
2. Safety Compliance: Egress windows provide a safe exit in case of emergencies, such as fires. Homes with proper egress windows in bedrooms are often more appealing to buyers due to safety regulations, making your home more compliant with building codes and potentially reducing liability.
3. Improved Aesthetic Appeal: The addition of an egress window can enhance the overall appearance of your basement, making it feel less like a dungeon and more like an integral part of the home. A well-lit and well-designed basement can be a selling point.
4. Increased Home Value: A finished basement with an egress window can increase the overall square footage of the home, which is a key factor in appraisals and home valuations. More livable space typically translates to a higher market value.
5. Attracting Buyers: Many buyers look for homes that offer additional living space, and a finished basement with an egress window can be a significant selling point. It can also appeal to families who need extra bedrooms or space for guests.
6. Potential Rental Income: If you decide to finish your basement and include an egress window, you could rent it out as a separate living unit. This potential for rental income can be attractive to buyers looking for investment opportunities.
7. Market Demand: In many markets, homes with updated basements and egress windows are in higher demand. This can lead to quicker sales and potentially higher offers from buyers.

Overall, adding an egress window is an investment that can enhance safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal, ultimately leading to an increase in your home’s value. If you’re considering this addition, it might be worthwhile to consult with a real estate professional to assess its potential impact in your specific market.
