Make Your Superior Basement Count
Plenty of Superior homeowners have a basement that is mostly storage today and could be much more. Before it can hold a legal bedroom, though, it needs an escape opening that meets code. That is the work we do every day. We enlarge an existing basement window or cut a brand-new opening, then build the well that lets someone climb out safely.
You pick the window and the look of the well. Outside, choose from steel, stone-look, Block-Tex or timber terrace wells, then top it with a custom grate or cover. If the site needs it, we add a drain tap or a window well sump pump.
A basic package typically budgets between $5,000 and $9,000, and estimates are always free, either at your home or by virtual appointment.

Local know-how
Superior's Homes: Mining Roots, Rock Creek Growth
Superior was founded in 1896 and incorporated in 1904, and coal mining drove its early years until the Industrial Mine closed in 1945. Most of today’s town came much later. The Rock Creek land was subdivided in 1987, and by 2006 about 2,700 single-family homes had been built there. Many of those houses have basements that owners are only now getting around to finishing.
The town has also been through a hard few years. The Marshall Fire, which began on December 30, 2021, destroyed 378 homes in Superior, and many families have rebuilt since. Whether your house is a rebuild or an original Rock Creek home, a properly sized egress window is what turns basement square footage into a bedroom that meets code and gives the people sleeping there a safe way out.

Engineering & permits
Superior Building Codes and Permits
The Town of Superior’s posted building codes include the 2024 International Residential Code, with local amendments in Chapter 18 of the Superior Municipal Code, and the 2024 Metro Cohort Model Code for energy efficiency. Codes get updated, so we confirm the current edition with the Town when we apply. We pull the building permit for every egress window we install. Each job also gets a third-party structural engineering detail, an inspection by a certified structural engineering firm and an approval letter. That is our standard on every opening, whether or not the jurisdiction requires engineering.

Egress windows in Superior: FAQ
Do I need an egress window to put a bedroom in my Superior basement?
Yes. The International Residential Code requires an emergency escape opening in basements and in every sleeping room. For a window, that means at least 5.7 square feet of clear opening, 24 inches of clear height, 20 inches of clear width and a sill no higher than 44 inches. A door to the outside can also work, and we build walkout basements and egress doors too.
My basement window is already there. Can you just make it bigger?
Yes, and many Superior jobs start exactly that way. We cut the foundation wall to the new size, set the new window and replace the small well with one that meets code. Our price is the same as cutting a fresh opening, because the engineering, permit and well work are much the same either way.
