Egress Window Engineering & Permits

Cutting into a foundation is structural work. Every egress window and walkout we build is engineered, permitted and inspected, even when the city doesn't ask for it.

Our rule, on every job

No engineering, no cut. Period.

Your foundation holds up your house. When we make a new opening in it, a third-party structural engineer details exactly how that opening is cut, framed and supported for your specific wall. After the install, a certified structural engineering firm inspects the work and we get an approval letter for your project.

We do this on every egress window and walkout, whether or not your building department requires it. It protects your home, and it gives you paperwork you'll want when you sell.

Questions

Engineering and permit questions

Yes. Enlarging or cutting a new opening in a foundation wall requires a building permit in Colorado cities and counties, and the foundation cut needs a design from a licensed professional. We take care of both.

Because every wall is different, and the opening carries the weight of your house. An engineering detail and inspection on every job protects your home and gives you documentation when you sell.

It depends on your building department and the season. Most jobs are scheduled about three to six weeks out, including permit time.

Yes. You receive an approval letter for your project, and the permit is closed out with the building department after inspection.

Reviews

Customers on a hassle-free permit process

“Sunny from Denver Egress Windows was very helpful with our permitting process.”

Luke Mcconville

“They are simply the BEST. In a time when engineering and creativity needed to be brought together. They did it.”

Suz S

“Outstanding, timely work. They made our basement a much brighter place for a very reasonable price. Furthermore, they took care of the permit work (we live in an historic landmark district, so this was beastly). We would highly recommend Denver Egress to anyone!”
