Egress Windows Built for Aurora Basements
Aurora is the third-largest city in Colorado, and its basements are as varied as its neighborhoods. Some are small and low under older brick homes. Others are deep, poured-concrete spaces just waiting to be finished. Whatever you have, an egress window is what turns a basement room into a legal bedroom and gives everyone downstairs a real way out in a fire.
We focus on egress. We also install basement egress doors and walkout basements when a window alone isn’t the right fit for the room you have in mind.
Want something different from the usual slider? We install European Tilt and Turn egress windows that open inward like a door for a wide, easy exit and tilt at the top for ventilation. Either way, you get more daylight downstairs and a room that feels finished.

Local know-how
Postwar Roots and a Fast-Growing City
A lot of Aurora’s housing story starts after World War II. Hoffman Heights went up between 1950 and 1953 as about 1,700 three-bedroom homes for returning soldiers and their families, many of them in brick. The nearby Lowry Air Force Base and Fitzsimons Army Hospital helped drive that demand. Homes from this era often have modest lower levels, and adding egress is one of the most practical ways to gain usable space without building out.
The city has kept growing ever since and now spreads across Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas Counties, reaching about 386,000 residents in 2020. Because Aurora covers so much ground, the details change from street to street: wall type, how close the neighbor’s fence is, where the gas meter sits and how water moves across the yard. We check all of that during the estimate so the window and well fit your specific house.

Aurora Building Permits, Handled for You
In Aurora, building permits and inspections run through the City’s Building Division. The City’s municipal code adopts the 2021 International Residential Code with local amendments, and that code sets the size rules for basement escape openings and window wells. We pull the permit for you. On top of what the city asks for, every job we do includes a third-party structural engineering detail, an inspection by a certified structural engineering firm and an approval letter for your records. That documentation helps when you refinance, sell or finish the rest of the basement.

Egress windows in Aurora: FAQ
How much is an egress window in Aurora?
Most basic egress packages budget between $5,000 and $9,000. The final number depends on your foundation wall, the window style, the well, site access and Aurora’s requirements. Pricing is the same whether there’s a small window there now or just solid wall.
Can you add egress to an older brick home in Hoffman Heights or a similar neighborhood?
Yes. Older homes are a big part of what we do. We look at the foundation, the space between your house and the property line, and any utilities on that side before recommending a location. A third-party structural engineer details the opening for your specific wall, so the cut is supported properly no matter the age of the house.
Which Aurora office issues the permit, and do I have to go there?
Permits are issued by the City of Aurora Building Division. You don’t have to visit or fill anything out yourself.

What homeowners say about us
“we had stephen, the owner of denver egress windows, help us with the process of installing a new egress window at an old 1905 brick bungalow. (west wash park, fall 2014)he was great to deal with on the front end of things- punctual, responsive, honest and personable.we ended up adding one egress window, and replaced two other existing smaller basement windows. one of the windows replaced got a new window well. stephen told us we didnt need to modify the other window well.everyone we dealt with was pleasant and professional. they handled all of the permits that were required.the end product was great and there were no surprises along the way; our quoted prices and services were all spot on.stephen was even kind enough to throw in a few extra bags of decorative rocks for the window well that they didnt do any work on.highly recommended, great people and great company.chris cVail, CO”

“I loved the work that Denver Egress Windows did. I've worked with other construction companies and unfortunately I've had a lot of bad experiences. For example, when delays occur other companies never make-up time, leave early and the communication is very poor.Denver Egress Windows was unlike the other companies. The organization completed my project in the time frame that they promised, even with rain delays. The job site was always clean and the installer always answered my questions.Gina the office manager was very helpful, by always answering my questions in a timely manner. I was so impressed on how Gina provided me with her cell phone number in case I needed any assistance.I will definitely use Denver Egress Windows again and strongly recommend them to anyone.”

“Steve and the Denver Egress team,We were very happy with your work. It was a goofy job to say the least and it turned out nicely and on-schedule. We were impressed with the speed at which you were able to complete the project - that was very important part of my requirements since it was my office space. The quality of the windows were a welcome bonus. The window design itself is easy to use, easy to clean, very sturdy with two open positions, vent and full-open.In addition to a ton of natural light and fresh air, I can actually hear the birds singing while I work now. Thanks.”
